| Hi,
We are considering getting a German Shepherd puppy, an 8 week old. The puppy is coming to us from an AKC registered party with all vaccination at start. Once we obtain it, how soon do we need to take it to vet and what type of vaccination will the dog need? Thanks, Hans |

Your new puppy should see a veterinarian within the first week you have him. He may not need any vaccinations but he should at least have a stool sample checked and be thoroughly examined. Many breeders have a time limit on their guarantee if the pet is examined within a certain number of days. You can read more about puppy needs and veterinary care at : http://www.newhartfordanimalhospital.com/puppyWellness.php
Good luck and we hope to meet you and your new puppy soon! |

| Hello I have a red heeler and a blue heeler both about seven months old one has had her first set of shots the other hasn't what are the costs , and how far in advance do I need to make an appointment thanks |

Thank you for your interest in NHAH! Ideally, puppies receive a series of vaccinations that start at 6-8 weeks of age, finishing when they are about 5 months old. When they start their series at an older age, the number of vaccines required is different. Their initial examinations are $45 and $39 if they are brought in together. Each distemper vaccination is approximately $15.00. We recommend they are vaccinated for distemper, leptospirosis, and Rabies minimally. They should also have a stool analysis done to check for intestinal parasites. The cost for that test is $21. There are other vaccinations that should be considered and depend on their lifetyle and living environment. We can give you a more accurate estimate based on the doctor's treatment recommendation at the time of your visit. We understand that properly taking care of a pet can be costly and there are ways we can help you decide on the best options for you and your budget. We also accept Care Credit which allows qualified individuals to pay for veterinary visits over a 6 month period, interest free. You can apply for Care Credit right on our website under the Care Credit tab. We can schedule you an appointment at your convenience and accomodate you within a week. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you. |

| I have gotten two puppies that will be a year old in mid November. They do need all their shots haven't had any. I was wondering what the cost would be approximately for there visit and shots and if you off any type of payment plan from some such as me who was rejected by the care credit program? |
| |
Hi. Thank you for your question! Initial exams for two puppies are $45 and $39 respectively. The first distemper vaccinations are $15.50 each and stool samples would be $21. It is very important that puppies receive proper deworming but when cost is a concern, we will tailor those protocols to fit your budget. The puppies will receive subsequent vaccinations about a month later but the exam fees will be reduced. We can give you an estimate before each visit so we can work within your budget. We offer CareCredit as a payment plan or you can use a credit card and pay that off over time. Give me a call and we will see if we can work something out. Thank you! |

| Our Little Lu Too comes to you. She is 18mos old border collie/lab mix and sees Dr. Jamrosz. Our question is she loves cucumbers and tomatoes. I have looked on line but fine conflicting reports. Are they ok for her. Also what do you think about ice in her water? Thank you. |
| |
Cucumbers and tomatoes are fine for Little Lu Too. Just keep the tomatoe vines away from her. Ice cubes are OK in her water as long as she doesn't swallow or choke on them. My dogs and cat love the cold water but I usually let the ice melt a bit before I let them drink it. Say hi to Little Lu Too for us! |

| please i need help i just found out my puppy has heart worms i need to know what can i do and what procedure's are there to remove them please im so scared for my puppy |

We are so sorry to hear your puppy has heartworm disease. If you are sure it is heartworm, your veterinarian must have diagnosed this. He or she should be able to give you a price for treatment and a prognosis depending on how severe the infestation is. If you would like a second opinion, please give our office a call and we can schedule that for you. Good luck! |

| We are looking to give our 11week puppy the necessary shots he needs, however cost is weighing on us heavily. What should we expect to pay for a 11 week giant schnauzer? |

Congratulations on your new puppy! Owning a pet is very rewarding but will impact household finances. New puppies should be examined, have stool tested, and be properly vaccinated. An initial examination is $45 and vaccines are additional depending on what your puppy has had and still needs. We do offer Care Credit which is similar to a revolving line of credit that allows approved clients to take up to 6 months to pay any bill with no interest. If you would like more information or a more exact quote for your first visit, please call us so we can discuss your pet's needs. We will work with you to find a healthcare program that fits your budget. We hope to hear from you soon. Thank you! |
