| Dr. Mondi,
I recently brought my cat in Garfield. I want to tell you what a great vet Dr. Roseburn is . The staff there is super.
The treatment I received is beyond above. I will always be greatful for it.
I did bring in my cat Missy, She was treated well. I brought in my dog ashes. Had Garfield and my dog Taffy
put in the same urn. Since they were always together.
Right now I am looking for a Mixed Yellow Lab / cocker
or ? Female dog. Puppy. I have been looking for quite sometime now. If you know of anyone or have any suggestions. Please let me know. Thanks Michael Clark, |
| |
Thank you for the kind words. Dr. Jamrosz is a terrific veterinarian. Garfield will be missed and we are sorry for your loss. We will keep an eye out for the type of dog you are looking for. The Stevens-Swan and Herkimer humane societies and also rescues can be a great source for pet adoption. We hope to see you again soon. |

| wasn't sure where this fell under. My dog starting yesterday and this morning isn't himself. He seems very mopey, and isn't getting excited like he does when we talk to him, he just lays there and looks at us, he still has a crate, he likes to go in and he went in and didn't want to come out. this morning he was visibly shaking on and off sitting under the table. He does have a fatty tumor that he has had for a few years. we don't know what to do for him. |
| |
I'm sorry to hear your dog isn't feeling well. Hiding and shaking are signs of discomfort or pain. He should be examined by a veterinarian. If you call our office and make an appointment, I would be happy to see him. Thank you. |

| This question is for Dr. Alex Mora.
I was in to see you this last Saturday with our friend Harley, the Macaw bird with the Stress plucking issue. At that Appointment you had mentioned that you knew of a family that wanted to place their female Macaw into a good home. We would love to adopt her and welcome her into our home. If you could, would you please e-mail me the information on her. We would greatly appreciate the chance to meet her and see if she would be a good fit with us. And to see if she would like to be with us as well.
Thank you
Brenda Nutt |

I did check for you but the bird has already found a home. Thank you for offering to take her and say hi to Harley for me. |

| Lady, our sheltie/beagle has a pink nose. She is 2 years old and has had a problem with the pink nose. It continues to be irritated and sometimes bleeds. It has never been normal and she has been treated with a powder that was
supposed to heal it. Bi op from Cornell indicated it was an auto immune issue. Can you suggest any other avenue we
could follow? In advance Thank you. Rick |
| |
If it is really autoimmune it should respond to a immunosupressive dose of corticosteroids. There is also a condition in collies where this condition is related to poor vascular flow to the area. In this case, we use pentoxiphiline to treat the patient. I will be more than happy to look at this particular lesion and make a recommendation of treatment. Please give our office a call to schedule an appointment. Thank you. |

| Dr. Mondi, My aunt just passed away 2 weeks ago. She and her daughter have 2 small dogs. One dog was very attached to her, slept with her, etc. Both dogs seem to be grieving, but Meiko, more so. How do you help a pet through this.? He keeps looking for her, and since my cousin worked long hrs, my aunt was the main caretaker. Thx in advance. |
| |
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Grief is as real for our pets as it is for us. Comfort and plenty of interactive exercise both work well in establishing new relationships and routines. And time does help. |

| Hello New Hartford Animal Hospital~
My name is Jayne and we have 4 female cats at this time ( all spayed and up to date on shots- etc.)
2 of my babies are Pure Breed Maine Coons- ages 9 months and 8 months. We have a 4 year old that is part Maine Coon ( a rescue cat from a Shelter) The 4th Cat we are not sure of her breed, she was a feral kitten that we rescued from a local farmer in town. She is so sweet and so lovable. ( and looks SO SMALL NEXT TO MY MAINE COONS!)
My question to you- Since getting my Pure Breed Maine Coons, I have been doing a lot of research and talking with different Breeders ( from different States ) about Raw Diet Feeding. After 3 months of researching, etc and PAYING for what is considered HIGH END CANNED CAT FOOD, I decided to go with the Raw Diet.
My cats LOVE it. I get the Nutritional Supplements from FELINE INSTINCTS. I grind up fresh Chicken Breast and Thighs- add water, Salmon Oil and the supplement. What a difference at feeding time! No more throwing away food, etc. They are licking the plates clean! AND their poop is just about odorless! ( And less of it.)
I have been doing this for about 1 month now. I can help but smile and giggle at them eating~ happy babies !!!
I would love to have a Vet that feels this is a perfect program for healthy, happy felines. Plus a Vet who considers Holistic Practice as an acceptable program.
I have also been researching the different approaches to different health programs. I can now see a connection to the loss of our Beloved other Cats who ""just overnight"" got old and passed away. We fed dry food always. The females both had kidney problems and both males had heart attacks.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE **RAW DIET** FEEDING, ETC~
Next month I will be getting my 5th Baby. She will be 3 months old and she is a RED Pure Breed Maine Coon.
I want the best for my Feline babies - Any comments, opinion, etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you for your time.
Jayne Brown |

I am glad to hear you have found a diet that works for you. We do support pet owners who choose to feed a raw diet as long as they know what the potential risks are. I encourage pet owners to work with a nutritional consultant or their veterinarian to be sure their dietary needs are being completely met. Good luck! |

| My parents have a Doberman. He is about 5 years old. He started to become more aggressive with the other dogs and attacks the cats. Is there anything that we can do to help him before we have to give him up? |
| |
If you haven't brought this issue up with your veterinarian, I encourage you to do so. The first thing we like to do is an in-depth behavior analysis of the pet and the environment. We rule out any medical issues and then deal with the behavior problem. If necessary, we will refer the patient to a behavior specialist for further evaluation and treatment. Many cases are successful if the owner follows the patient plan. Let us know if we can be of further help and good luck. |

| We've not gone on vacation since owning our male dog of 6 years named Bear. This Spring we're planning to go south for 9 days. I am fairly new to the area and have asked around for names of reputable Kennels in the area to board our dog. The name of one came up often so this is where I decided to visit with the prospect of boarding Bear. Bear has never been away from us nor spent a night away from home. Bear is not dog friendly to most dogs he meets, liking females better than males. Bear loves people and children. He is spoiled and very attached to us, and he's my "baby". In your expertise, do you believe Bear will fare well at a reputable Kennel? I'm so worried something will happen to him while we're away. I have no one able to come to our home to care for Bear so I don't really have any options. Thank you. |
| |
Being away from our pets can be worrisome. I worry about my own dog when I leave her but know she is well cared for by our boarding staff. If Bear has never boarded before, consider boarding him for a night or a weekend before his 9 day stay. He will get to know the staff and they will get to know him. I am not sure which facility you have chosen but ask your veterinarian if they board because that might be an option. With that said, visit the kennel, take a tour and ask questions. Many of the kennels will provide photo updates daily so that you know your pet is doing well. Good luck! |

| After every meal, my cat paws at the floor around her food, like she doesn't want anyone to find it or eat it. Is that what this behavior is? |
| |
Cats sometimes do have territorial behavior so this could be what you are seeing. As long as she is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom, this is probably normal for her. |
| |
| Can guinea pigs get colds? I have accounts with you for Isis and Ares. Might have to make apptmt for guinea pig not sure if cold or just excited. He was grunting when I took him out to clip his toenails. Eating and drinking and playing ok no signs of appetite loss or dehydration. Playing fine also. Seems fine except for some grunting. |
| |
Guinea Pigs can get colds. If your pig stops eating or shows any signs of a cold, you should make an appointment to have him examined. Grunting can be a sign of contentment as well so that could be all you are seeing. Please feel free to call if you have any further questions. Thank you and say "Hi" to Iris and Ares for us. |
| |
| Do you offer laser surgery for spaying a canine? |
| |
We do not do laser surgery here. Your best bet is to try a veterinary hospital in Syracuse. Thank you. |
| |
| Hello, I was an intern at your hospital a few summers ago, and I am now a 3rd year veterinary student at the University of Pennsylvania. I was wondering how much the average cost for a castration is at your hospital, and if there is any veterinarian who would be willing to let me watch the surgery since I have never seen one before (although I did perform my first spay in September). My husband and I are only going to be in NY for one week, so if the cost is within our budget and there are any appointments available it would have to be between December 26th-28th. Thanks so much! |
| |
Thank you for contacting us! Is your pet a dog or a cat and how old is he? I will check with one of our doctors and get back to you about your request. Please send me an email at info@newhartfordanimalhospital.com and we can chat that way. Have a great day! |
| |
| I'm just wondering who takes care of the animals at night in the hospital? My dog is there and had surgery and his Incision is not healing good and I'm just concerned and I want to make sure he is ok. Thank you |
| |
Our technicians and doctors on call take care of patients after hours. If a patient needs 24 hour critical care, we have licensed staff that stays with the patient. |
| |
| ABout how much does it cost to get a dog vaccinated ?? |
| |
The cost for vaccinations depends on which vaccinations your pet needs and whether your pet is a cat or a dog. Most need at least a distemper and a rabies vaccine which cost about $15 each. The cost for an office visit with an examination is $45 for a new client client and $43 for an established client. Please call our office for additional information or to make an appointment. Thank you! |

| A Friend of Mine has a dog he loves very much but the dog is 15 years old and can no longer walk and has trouble even getting to the water dish,he wants to know what it would cost to just have him euthanized and he can bury her himself ? He doesn't have alot of money but I told him I would check out what it cost .Please email me a price list . Thank You ,Anna Mantelli |
| |
The cost for euthanasia depends on the weight of your friend's pet. Whether he can bury him at home also depends on the town or city that he lives in. If you can provide a little more detail, we can get you an answer. Thank you. |

| i have a 3 year choc lab/mix. he has biten 3 children in the past year, I am worried now. I know they provoked it but this getting serious now what would you recommend for him . he is very aggressive to most people I even caught him growling with my children on occasion should he be put to sleep is this the best solution if so how much does it cost |
| |
I am sorry to hear that you are having aggression issues with your pet. If you haven't done so already, make an appointment to speak with your veterinarian. They are best suited to make suggestions on how severe behavior issues are and whether your dog would be a good candidate for behavior therapy. Biting and growling should be taken seriously, even if you feel he was provoked. Three instances is too many and the sooner you make a change, the better for you and your pet. Good luck. |
| |
| How much would it cost to board a 7 month old domestic short hair male kitten from July 3rd all the way through to August 17th? |
| |
The cost to board your cat would be $13.00 per day. Please call our office if you would like to make a reservation. Thank you! |
| |
| What types of insurance do you take? I have been considering getting pet insurance but I am not sure how it works when it come to making vet visits and payment to the hospital |
| |
Pet insurance works a little differently than human health insurance. The plan you purchase will determine what is covered and what is excluded. We will submit claims on your behalf to any insurance company as long as you provide us with a claim form. Many of our clients use pet health insurance and are very happy with it. For more information, visit our website brochure on pet insurance or call a staff member and they will be happy to help! Good luck. |
| |
| How much does it cost for a check up for guinea pigs? Do you neuter guinea pigs? How much does that cost? |
| |
We do provide veterinary care for guinea pigs. Initial exams cost $45 and we can give you an estimate for surgery at that time. Each surgery varies depending on the age and type of pig. Give us a call if you would like to schedule an appointment. Thank you! |
| |
| Could you get a appintment for Rabbits |
| |
We do have several doctors who treat rabbits. Give us a call if you would like to schedule an appointment. |
| |
| am is it likely for a rabbbit to die from having babies? and how much money is it for a normal appointment? |
| |
It is not necessarily likely for rabbits to dies from having babies but it is always a possibility. Diet, nutrition, and lack of calcium can all play a role. It is best to have a physical exam and provide proper nutritional support before becoming pregnant. Our physical examinations are usually about $50 for exotic pets. Give us a call if you would like to schedule an appointment. Thank you. |
