New Hartford Animal HospitalHospital Facilities

As a 4-year American Animal Hospital Association accredited veterinary hospital, we are committed to providing the highest quality care available for your pet. We follow AAHA's high standards for the medical and surgical needs of your pet. We care for your pets here as if they were our own. Each animal has it's own clean, ample compartment during it's hospital stay. To ensure your pet's comfort, the entire hospital is climate controlled. In order to maintain the highest level of protection for your pet, we require vaccinations be kept current.

Vaccinations

Effective vaccinations provide a high degree of protection. It is necessary to vaccinate all animals against those diseases they may encounter. An annual comprehensive examination is required prior to vaccination in order to assess overall health, readiness for vaccinations and optimize your pet's prevention against disease.

New Hartford Animal HospitalSurgery

Before your pet's procedure, it will be examined to address any problems. We require pre-anesthetic blood testing to ensure your pet is healthy enough to undergo general anesthesia. This testing provides vital information concerning the function of your pet's organ systems. If abnormalities are found, the type of drugs used for anesthesia may be changed or the surgery may be postponed. If your pet's blood work is within normal limits, we can use those values as a baseline to compare with future blood work results. During the procedure, your pet's vital signs are monitored constantly by our Licensed Veterinary Technicians. The anesthesia we use is the safest available. It is the same anesthesia as that which 80% of children receive in human hospitals. IV fluids are given to support your pet by maintaining blood pressure and other vital signs. The administration of fluids also decreases recovery time. Following surgery, monitoring continues to ensure your pet makes a full and pain-free recovery; pain medications are given as needed. Proper pain management returns your pet to normal much faster. After your pet is discharged, we are available 24 hours a day as part of our commitment to an exceptional level of care and service for our patients.

Appointments

Please call 737-PETS (737-7387) to schedule an appointment. For your pet's safety, we ask all our clients to keep their pet on a leash or in a carrier in the reception area. If your pet is a patient of NHAH and has a medical condition, we can board your pet although special arrangements may be needed. If your pet is not a patient of NHAH and your pet has a medical condition, we recommend you board your pet at your regular veterinarian's facility.

Emergencies

In the event of an emergency, the hospital can be reached at any time. Our telephone is attended 24 hours a day, providing you with an immediate response and prompt treatment.
